Ghosting as a Way of Life

June 19 2016

My wife and I went out for what I hoped would be a nice little excursion in Ilya into the bay.  Best laid plans, etc., as the wind hardly got moving at all.  On some occasions, we were able to get moving rather nicely, though my tacks weren’t my best.  As I’ve mentioned before, sailing is tougher for me with someone else on board than when I singlehand.  We ghosted quite a bit and made some headway other times.  We also found that other boats weren’t doing much better than we did.  Of course, I could have used the engine all the way to the bay and then worry about catching the wind, but isn’t that cheating?

I guess I’ll think about that for next time.
